Introduction
The Agile SL-C Steering Rack is a motorsports-quality replacement system for the budget-oriented stock unit provided by Superlite. Based on our successful eight-year history of endurance and sprint racing the SL-C, we designed this rack to correct the shortcomings of the original unit. It is machined to our precise requirements by one of the world leaders in steering components whose parts are widely used in both top tier motorsports and major OEM road cars. These designs and components have been vetted and tested in LMP cars at considerably higher steering loads than the SL-C could ever generate.
Our racks are far more robust than the original equipment and feature a proprietary cast aluminum housing, high-strength steel rack bar and pinion, high-quality bearings and bushings, tight-tolerance machining, and meticulous assembly. We offer two different rack ratios, street and race, which provide different levels of increased steering response and sensitivity. The Street ratio of the Agile rack features a 27% increase in rack speed and is the perfect solution for someone who wants to drive their car to the track. The Race ratio features a 36% increase and is ideal for track-focused cars.
Both rack ratios require increased steering effort and the rack has been manufactured to support column-driven electric power assisted steering systems (EPAS) which can put an increased load on the unit as a whole (see our EPAS offerings for complete solutions). The system is designed to bolt to the front bulkhead with minimal modification. Unlike the stock equipment, the flange at the pinion features a gasket that provides a weather tight seal into the cabin. The rack is supplied with sandwich plates that mount to the firewall and enable it to be removed without accessing the cockpit, greatly increasing serviceability of the rack and surrounding components.
